Islamic Values in the Workplace

I’ve always believed that religion builds a strong and firm foundation for your skills, lifestyle, and habits. Naturally, this goes into your working style as well. When I was suffering from imposter syndrome, I had to approach conquering it in different ways. Still, the approach that actually worked for me was bringing my Islamic values into the workplace. It made me a better Muslim, strengthened my discipline, and made me happier overall in the workplace.

Here are some SadiaSaidSo recommendations and values that helped me and how:

Continuous Learning and Improvement (Ihsan):

Ihsan is the pursuit of excellence in worship and in character as if you see Allah, and if you do not see Him, then truly He sees you. This also means doing things beautifully in your life and, therefore, completing tasks in a tasteful manner. A way to do this in the workplace can be by finding opportunities for learning and improvements. Whether this means your team and you set a monthly learning session where team members share insights or learnings from their work or personal studies. Or you can create a personal development plan each quarter, focusing on soft and hard skills. You can use these plans to work with your manager to show growth for promotion. You can also volunteer for new projects to broaden your skill set in your company. If you are applying the approach of taking pride in the work that you do with ihsan, you’ll also need. It involves putting your best effort into your work, seeking to continuously improve, and maintaining high standards. Patience & Perseverance (Sabr):

Gratitude & Positive Attitude (Shukr):

Shukr in Islam is the acknowledgment and appreciation of Allah’s blessings. It involves being thankful for what you have and using your resources wisely and responsibly. Cultivating an attitude of gratitude can transform the workplace. It involves appreciating the opportunities, people, and resources available to you. Expressing gratitude to colleagues and superiors can create a positive work culture, improve team morale, and even enhance job satisfaction and performance.
